Handmade Rugs, Heriz

Heriz (or Heris) is an historical town in the Eastern province of Azerbaijan. The village rests on the volcanic slopes of mount Sabalan.

The Tulip: Geometric shaped tulips, in a variety of styles represent prosperity.

The sheep in the area drink copper-rich water, which many believe accounts for the high quality, resilience and thickness of the wool. The rugs are soft to the touch, tightly woven and thin textured.

Colors: Light rusty reds, brown and sky blues, often with beige and turquoise accents.

Patterns: Elaborate central medallions are a common characteristic.
