Cleaning Tips for Persian Rug

The most expensive decorative item in your house could be your Persian rug, and a genuine rug can indeed cost you a considerable sum. Taking care of such a valuable item may be your top household priority as you try to keep the rug clean and tidy. While your intentions may be good, before cleaning it you will need to know that Persian rug cannot be treated like an ordinary utility carpet. It is quite precious and need to be handled with care, just like any of the furniture in your home. A Persian rug usually is usually an investment for life if well-maintained, and there are certain tips should you follow to give that longevity to your prized rug:

• You need to know that most Persian rugs are made of natural wool, so if the rug gets dirty use a vacuum cleaner with low suction to remove the dirt.

• Never wash the Persian rug with shampoo or rug cleaning agents without consulting a professional rug cleaner. Some of the rug cleaning agents contain bleach or other harmful chemicals that can ruin your Persian rug.

• Do not use a comb/brush to straighten the fringes of the Persian rug, as doing so could harm the wool or the surface of the rug.

• It is inevitable that with children or pets in the house there are certain risks of damaging your Persian rug via spillage or other unplanned incidents. In the case of spillage, do not try to wash the rug with a detergent. Instead try using some warm water and use a dry cloth to dab the moisture off the rug. Attend to the stains as soon as possible to avoid permanent damage. If you are not successful in removing the stain contact a professional rug cleaner.
